Message from Marjory

A lot of people will remember Marjory MacLean from her time as Clerk and Moderator to the Youth Assembly or Depute Clerk to the General Assembly. She’s just finished the latter job and so her involvement with Youth Assembly and GA Youth Reps has finished. This is just a wee note to say thanks to Marjory and here’s a comment she left to share with everyone who’s been involved in these things.

On the Saturday evening of the Assembly, all the former Moderators of the National Youth Assembly took me (Moderator 2002 and 2003 and Clerk for most of my adult life, or so it seemed at the time) out for a meal. Everyone was saying nice things to each other, and they asked me to pop onto this blog what I said.

I just think that the reform and improvement of the General Assembly over the last ten years has been massively influenced by the Youth Reps. They bring a knowledge, understanding and diligence, as well as character, fun and energy, to the larger Assembly. I have a feeling the contribution of the youth is possibly underestimated, but it’s one of those things that history will no doubt realise in years to come.

I’m off now to see the pirates, and then the Taliban. All the best for Youth Assembly when it comes.
