Introduction to debates

Hi there. I’m Iain and this weekend will be blogging as well as carrying out my other role as Moderator. The staff team have almost all arrived and last minute preparations are going on, everything from music rehearsals and workshop planning to osrting out T-shirts. This will be my fourth Youth Assembly and my second as Moderator. While the weekend has a huge variety of different sessions it’s “raison d’etre” is as a place for young people in the Church of Scotland to explore issues and let the wider church know what young people think. Last year the way debates worked changed and instead of CofS Councils bringing us topics, the delegates split into smaller groups during the weekend and explored topics by themselves. This proved a great success, both at Youth Assembly and when the results were delivered to the General Assembly, and we’re hoping to build on the success of that this year, discussing the topics of Wealth, Spirituality, Interfaith and Identity. I’ll be commenting on the progress of those debates as the weekend progresses.

Another thing we are hoping to do here is post short videos of interviews with delegates and try and give you a flavour of the people here and the things that are happening so come back during the next few days to see these.
